Established in 2026, Project Enfoque is dedicated to bringing accessible eye care to underserved children in Puerto Rico. We remove financial and social barriers to care and deliver free, on-site eye clinics and custom, prescription eyeglasses directly to youth in underserved communities.
Our Model
We work with local optometry and ophthalmology partners to provide comprehensive eye exams and free, prescription eyeglasses directly inside trusted neighborhood spaces such as local Boys & Girls Clubs. This community-based approach to care eliminates the systemic financial and social barriers that prevent families and children from accessing eye care.
In addition to providing the eye exam and corrective lenses, our model introduces parents and children to local eye care providers, giving them the platform to form a trusting, lasting relationship.
Clear vision is the foundation of a child's education, safety, and well-being. A single pair of custom prescription glasses reshapes how a child reads the whiteboard, engages in the classroom, and navigates their future with full confidence.
Our clinics are funded through private donations and public grants, and we do not involve any user-fees or health insurance. We aim to bring this relational model of on-site eye care to all children who struggle to access eye care in Puerto Rico.

About Us
Linda Rose Pérez Laras, DrPH, MSc, MS, MPA, is an epidemiologist, educator, and researcher dedicated to improving health outcomes for underserved communities. She serves as Assistant Director of the Research Center, Research Coordinator at the Puerto Rico Health Justice Center, and faculty member at San Juan Bautista School of Medicine, where she mentors students and supports research development. Her research focuses on health disparities, child health, violence prevention, and community-engaged approaches to improving health and well-being among vulnerable populations.

Dr. Daniel Palazuelos, MD, MPH, is a global health physician with over 20 years of experience in global health, internal medicine, and medical education. As the Director of Community Health Systems at Partners In Health and the Director of the Office of Community Centered Medical Education at Harvard Medical School, his unified goal is to assure that the finest clinicians are trained to understand the community perspective, and that healthcare system strengthening efforts are aligned to the real needs of people living in the most difficult circumstances.

Noah Janfaza is Co-Founder and President of Project Enfoque. A graduate of Harvard College and aspiring physician, Noah created Project Enfoque after identifying barriers to vision care while teaching health education at the Boys & Girls Club of Las Margaritas in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He is passionate about preventive health, health equity, and building community-based solutions that improve access to care for underserved populations.
Amelia Martínez Guzmán is Co-Founder and Vice-President of Project Enfoque. A second-year medical student at the San Juan Bautista School of Medicine in Caguas, Puerto Rico, and a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill, her commitment to medicine is rooted in a lifelong dedication to community service. Amelia is dedicated to developing sustainable, community-based solutions that ensure high-quality healthcare is accessible to all, regardless of socioeconomic status.

What does funding cover?
What is the timeline for a clinic?
100% of philanthropic gifts and any grants received go toward funding the operational costs of organizing clinics, paying eye care providers for services, and covering the cost of all pairs of eyeglasses for the children we see.
The timeline of each clinic is dependent on the site. At Las Margaritas, the clinics took place one afternoon per week over four consecutive weeks, examining roughly 45 children each session.
How are community hosts selected?
Are glasses delivered immediately?
We partner with established local community centers, schools, and youth clubs that have trusted relationships with families in underserved areas.
Project Enfoque does not yet have established relationships with an optical lab. While diagnostics happen on-site, prescription pairs are manufactured in accordance with the varying labs that our eye care providers work with. Typically, our bulk orders are delivered no more than one month after exam day.
